Plunged into the pool at 6 months young, she has been swimming her whole life. She began her journey into aquatics as a lifeguard and volunteer swim instructor. Melissa has worked at several swimming pools and aquatic facilities, including YMCAs, university pools, municipalities, seasonal pools, fitness clubs and a special district pool. Before coming to work with Lincoln Aquatics, Melissa served as the Executive Director at the Molalla Aquatic District. She was awarded the Outstanding Director of the year in 2020 by the Special Districts Association of Oregon. She continues to share her love for aquatics by coaching high school swim team, presenting at shows and being involved with state agencies, such as MTPRA. In her spare time, she takes her children to the pool to practice swimming and diving, since they share a love of swim too. Triathlon and running are her favorite pastimes, along with getting lost in a book. Mark Dernedde has a career spanning three decades in the Aquatics field with Lincoln Aquatics selling and repping all pool equipment. Mark has expansive knowledge with manufacturers, products and facilities. He has a love for baseball and his family. Most aquatic facility operators have pools that lifeguards and patrons perceive as safe as the water is “shallow”. This mindset presents many inherent risks, particularly to children 12 and under using the pools.
